  • We’re getting another kitten.  We’ve been talking about it for ages.  Shall we get William a friend?  But he might get jealous.  Yeah, no, let’s not get him a friend.  But maybe he’d like a friend for the long hours he’s alone during the day.  Yeah, but cats aren’t humans, maybe he’d rather be alone.  Yeah, and maybe we won’t choose the right friend.  And on and on, until this weekend when we decided that yes, we’d get him a friend.  So, we took a drive to the RSPCA and cuddled all the cuties including a very gorgeous ginger female Eddie wouldn’t agree to because of her long hair.  There was a one year old tabby we really liked too, but the one piece of advice we received that made sense was William would be happier with a younger kitten because he’d still be the biggest and the strongest and William is a little boy for a two-year old.  So finally, we chose a wee three-month old boy, we’re thinking of calling Jasper thanks to my cousin Tania.

  • Just before Christmas Dad asked me what’s the best personal library software/application/thingy for cataloguing all his books. I said I had no idea and it would depend on what he wanted. He said could you find out. I said I’d have a look, but what did he want to be able to do with his books. He said he didn’t know he just wanted something good. God, I felt like I was behind the reference desk talking to a summer clerk. Anyways, I said I’d get to it, but it would take a while because I’d have to evaluate them and there’s no special list that says what’s best. None that I would believe without checking out for myself anyway. So, I’ve finally started looking at what’s available. I’ve made a list of personal library cataloguing services and I’m going to look at them one at a time and write a little something about them based on my experience of using them. I’m looking at GuruLib this week. I’ll post a review of it within the next week. And when I’ve finished reviewing all the options on my list I’ll try to do a comparison and say which ones I recommend.
  • Two things I’m looking forward to this year: The sequel to Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel, Bring up the bodies to be published in May.  A week in the sun in Fiji in June.
