It’s Sunday afternoon

2009 April 5

I’m sitting in front of my study desk, on which is my computer, two notice boards, notes and readings, a sewing machine, a bottle of water, a cold cup of tea and the crumbs of two afghan biscuits.  Today, I have:

  1. Ran 14.5k.
  2. Finished my readings for tutorial five about the judicial role.
  3. Checked facebook.
  4. Eaten lunch at Cheung Sing with Eddie, where we had a wee disagreement about how I like to discuss my study of law.
  5. Bought groceries.  Our operation is so fine-tuned we can do this quite efficiently without speaking to one another.
  6. Eaten one afghan biscuit and drunk a cup of tea.
  7. Checked facebook.
  8. Started my readings for tutorial six, about the difference between judging and politics according to Hart and Dworkin.
  9. Made and half-drunk another cup of tea.
  10. Continued to read my tutorial six readings.
  11. Accepted Eddie’s peace offering of another afghan biscuit.
  12. Told Eddie to have a good surf and to be careful of the bluebottles.  He still has huge welts on his legs from a particularly vicious battle with them on Friday afternoon.
  13. Checked facebook.
  14. Stared at my notes on Dworkin’s view of adjudication as an interpretive task for a while.
  15. Stared out the window at a piece of blue sky they size of a sailor’s trousers.
  16. Decided that the best remedy for my study induced ennui is to go for a walk to the beach!

It could have been so much better though! If I could have just got my mind to stop wandering.
